General Information
The Akita Inu is Japan's most celebrated and revered dog breed, designated a National Monument of Japan in 1931. Famous globally through the story of Hachiko — the loyal Akita who waited for his deceased owner at Shibuya Station for nearly 10 years — the Akita embodies devotion and dignity. In India, they are exceptionally rare and command premium pricing due to limited availability and high import costs.
Behaviour & Temperament
Akitas are profoundly loyal, dignified, and reserved. They are devoted to family but inherently suspicious of strangers. They do not typically get along with other dogs, especially of the same sex. They require firm, experienced owners and early socialization. They are quiet, clean, and almost cat-like in demeanor. Akitas require 1–1.5 hours of exercise daily.

Health & Care
Akitas are prone to hip dysplasia, autoimmune conditions (including hypothyroidism, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome), progressive retinal atrophy, and sebaceous adenitis (a skin condition). They are sensitive to certain medications due to a gene mutation. Regular vet monitoring and diet management are critical.
Price in India (INR)
Japanese Akita Inu and American Akita are two distinct types. Japanese line Akitas (smaller, more refined) tend to command higher prices. Brindle, white, and red sesame colourations are most prized. Import-quality pups from Japanese bloodlines are at the top of the price range.
