General Information
The Alaskan Malamute is one of the oldest and most powerful Arctic sled dog breeds, developed by the Mahlemut Inuit tribe for hauling heavy loads across frozen terrain. Often confused with the Siberian Husky, the Malamute is significantly larger and more powerfully built. In India, Malamutes are rare, prized for their striking appearance, but require exceptional climate management and commitment from their owners.
Behaviour & Temperament
Alaskan Malamutes are affectionate, loyal, and playful with family. They are social and enjoy being part of a pack — but have a dominant streak that requires a confident, experienced owner. They have strong prey drive and will chase smaller animals. They are vocal (howl rather than bark), independent-minded, and require 2+ hours of vigorous daily exercise. They are not suited to guard dog roles — they welcome strangers enthusiastically.

Health & Care
Malamutes require cool environments — air conditioning is essential in India. They are prone to hip dysplasia, polyneuropathy, hereditary cataracts, and hypothyroidism. Their dense double coat sheds heavily twice a year. Like Huskies, NEVER shave their coat.
Price in India (INR)
Seal-and-white and wolf grey are most common colour patterns. Giant Malamutes are a separate strain and command higher prices. Extremely rare in India — availability is limited, driving premium pricing.
