General Information
The Border Collie is consistently ranked as the most intelligent dog breed in the world. Developed on the Scottish-English border for herding sheep, they possess unparalleled focus, problem-solving ability, and working drive. In India, they are gaining popularity among active owners and dog sport enthusiasts. They are NOT suitable for a sedentary lifestyle — they are purpose-built for action and mental challenge.
Behaviour & Temperament
Border Collies are intensely energetic, highly intelligent, and laser-focused. They form strong bonds with one person but are generally friendly. Without adequate exercise and mental stimulation (minimum 2+ hours daily), they become destructive, obsessive, or neurotic. They excel at agility, flyball, frisbee, and obedience competitions. They may try to herd children or other pets — a natural instinct.

Health & Care
Border Collies are prone to hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), epilepsy, and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis. They carry the MDR1 gene mutation, making them sensitive to certain medications. DNA testing of parents is strongly recommended.
Price in India (INR)
Black-and-white is the classic colour, but they come in red, blue merle, and many other patterns. Merle Border Collies are particularly striking and command premium prices. Working-line dogs are typically priced lower than show-line dogs.
