General Information
The Cane Corso is a large Italian Mastiff with ancient Roman lineage, historically used as a war dog, hunter, and estate guardian. The name derives from the Latin 'Cohors', meaning 'guardian' or 'protector'. In India, the Cane Corso has gained rapid popularity among serious dog enthusiasts for its commanding presence, exceptional intelligence, and intense loyalty. This breed is strictly for experienced owners.
Behaviour & Temperament
Cane Corsos are reserved, assertive, and profoundly loyal. They form deeply protective bonds with their family. They are highly intelligent and respond well to firm, consistent, reward-based training. Early socialization is absolutely critical — an unsocialized Cane Corso can become a management challenge. They require significant daily exercise — at least 1–1.5 hours. They are not recommended for first-time dog owners.

Health & Care
Cane Corsos are prone to hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, bloat (gastric torsion), entropion (eyelid inversion), and dilated cardiomyopathy. Their large size means joint health is paramount. Feed from raised bowls and avoid exercise immediately after meals to reduce bloat risk.
Price in India (INR)
Black and grey (formentino) are prized colours. Brindle patterns are also popular. Import-quality pups from Italian bloodlines command the highest prices in India. This is a premium, rare breed.
