French Bulldog
Bat-eared, big-hearted, and bursting with personality — the ultimate city companion.
Back to All DogsGeneral Information
The French Bulldog, known globally as the 'Frenchie', is one of the world's most popular companion breeds. Originally bred in England from Toy Bulldogs and crossed with Parisian ratters, they became a Parisian icon. In India, Frenchies have exploded in popularity among urban pet owners for their compact size, minimal exercise needs, and massive personality. They are ideal for apartment living in cities.
Behaviour & Temperament
French Bulldogs are playful, affectionate, alert, and adaptable. They are excellent with children and other pets. They crave human attention and do not do well alone for long periods. They are relatively quiet (rarely bark excessively), making them great for apartment buildings. They have a mischievous, clownish personality with spurts of energy followed by long napping sessions.

What Makes This Breed Special
Health & Care
Being brachycephalic (flat-faced), French Bulldogs are highly prone to Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), which requires surgery in severe cases. They cannot swim and must never be left near water unsupervised. They are also prone to spinal issues, skin fold infections, cherry eye, and patellar luxation. Air-conditioned environments are essential in India's hot climate.
Price in India (INR)
Fawn, cream, brindle, and pied are standard colours. Rare colours (merle, blue, chocolate, lilac) command dramatically higher prices — but be aware that some rare colours carry additional health risks. Never buy from breeders promoting 'teacup' French Bulldogs. Samaria Pet Shop only stocks ethically bred, health-tested Frenchies.
