General Information

The Great Dane, often called the 'Apollo of Dogs', is one of the world's tallest breeds. Despite their imposing size, Great Danes are known as gentle giants. They were originally bred in Germany to hunt wild boar. In India, they are rare prestige breeds often kept by experienced dog owners. Their friendly, patient nature makes them excellent family companions despite their enormous size.

Behaviour & Temperament

Great Danes are friendly, patient, and dependable. They are affectionate with family and surprisingly gentle with children. They can be reserved with strangers but are not typically aggressive. They require moderate daily exercise — about 45–60 minutes — despite their size. Overexercising puppies can damage their growing joints.

Health & Care

Great Danes are susceptible to bloat (gastric torsion), dilated cardiomyopathy, hip dysplasia, wobbler syndrome, and osteosarcoma. Their shorter lifespan is a breed characteristic. Feed multiple small meals per day to reduce bloat risk. Avoid exercise immediately after feeding.
