Pitbull Terrier
Misunderstood, magnificent, and deeply loyal — a true nanny dog at heart.
Back to All DogsGeneral Information
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is one of the most misunderstood breeds in the world. Originally developed for bull baiting and later as farm and family dogs, Pitbulls were historically known as 'nanny dogs' for their exceptional gentleness with children. In India, ownership regulations vary by state. Note: Pitbulls are banned in some Indian states under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act — verify local regulations before purchase.
Behaviour & Temperament
Properly bred and raised Pitbulls are affectionate, loyal, energetic, and eager to please. They are excellent with family and children when properly socialized. They can be dog-aggressive and require experienced handling, early socialization, and consistent positive reinforcement training. They have high energy levels and need 1–2 hours of vigorous daily exercise. They are highly intelligent and excel in obedience, agility, and weight pulling.

Health & Care
Pitbulls are generally robust but are prone to hip dysplasia, hereditary cataracts, skin allergies (demodectic mange), and heart disease. They are sensitive to cold. Their short coat is low maintenance, but skin allergy management may require dietary changes and veterinary guidance.
Price in India (INR)
Prices vary significantly based on bloodline (Gotti, Razors Edge, Colby, etc.), colour, and build. Blue, tricolour, and merle Pitbulls command higher prices. Always verify local regulations regarding Pitbull ownership before purchase.
